Correction: Rapid Diversity Loss of Competing Animal Species in Well-Connected Landscapes

چکیده
Fig 5. The effect of fragmentation (scale) on the number of surviving species out of 21 under the reference conditions at five competitive settings (A-E).Different lines indicate the amount of surviving species out of 21 at different time intervals (t in years) since the start of the simulation. Bold lines indicate the diversity in the whole landscape and thin lines indicate the average patch diversity. Every point represents the average of 30 simulations. The landscape configuration consists of 100 patches that vary in size and are distributed at random, the average patch carrying capacity is 20 breeding pairs. The figure illustrates that the metapopulation diversity is highest at high fragmentation scales in all competitive settings whereas patch diversity is highest at intermediate fragmentation levels.

Rapid Diversity Loss of Competing Animal Species in Well-Connected Landscapes
Population viability of a single species, when evaluated with metapopulation based landscape evaluation tools, always increases when the connectivity of the landscape increases. However, when interactions between species are taken into account, results can differ. We explore this issue using a stochastic spatially explicit meta-community model with 21 competing species in five different competi...
متن کاملBeta diversity along environmental gradients: implications of habitat specialization in tropical montane landscapes.
1. Understanding how species in a diverse regional pool are spatially distributed with respect to habitat types is a longstanding problem in ecology. Tropical species are expected to be specialists along environmental gradients, and this should result in rapid compositional change (high beta diversity) across landscapes, particularly when alpha diversity is a small fraction of regional diversit...
متن کاملPlant diversity accurately predicts insect diversity in two tropical landscapes.
Plant diversity surely determines arthropod diversity, but only moderate correlations between arthropod and plant species richness had been observed until Basset et al. (Science, 338, 2012 and 1481) finally undertook an unprecedentedly comprehensive sampling of a tropical forest and demonstrated that plant species richness could indeed accurately predict arthropod species richness. We now requi...
متن کاملFunctional decay in tree community within tropical fragmented landscapes: Effects of landscape-scale forest cover
As tropical rainforests are cleared, forest remnants are increasingly isolated within agricultural landscapes. Understanding how forest loss impacts on species diversity can, therefore, contribute to identifying the minimum amount of habitat required for biodiversity maintenance in human-modified landscapes. Here, we evaluate how the amount of forest cover, at the landscape scale, affects patte...
متن کاملPlant Species Diversity Response to Animal Grazing Intensity in Semi-Steppe Rangelands
Knowledge of the relationships between biotic components of rangeland ecosystem i.e. herbivores and plants is important for range managers. In order to study herbivorse grazing intensity on plant species diversity, an experiment was conductef using fuor grazing treatments in darrehshar rangelands, Ilam province in 2015. Plant species data were taken based on a randomized-systematic sampling met...
